NUKU‘ALOFA, Tonga (June 13, 2000 – Radio Tonga)---A stranded baby whale is creating a major spectacle at Halaevalu wharf for the people of Vava'u.

Local resident Lutoviko Tapueluelu says the young whale is trapped inside the harbor’s waters and is unable to make its way to the open sea.

Meanwhile, its tossing and turning has created wonderful scenes for people to watch.

The young whale measures more than ten feet long and seems to be enjoying his rendezvous around Neiafu Harbor, normally known for its calm and peaceful nature with a beautiful natural setting.

Now is the whale watching season, as the giant mammals travel from the north to the southern waters of the Pacific for their spawning period.
