MAN ARRESTED AT SAIPAN AIRPORT WITH OVER MILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF ‘ICE’

SAIPAN, Northern Mariana Islands (June 13, 2000 -- Hawaii Public Radio)---Authorities in the Northern Mariana Islands believe they may have cracked an international drug ring after arresting a man allegedly trying to smuggle more than a million dollars worth of crystal methamphetamine into Saipan.

Authorities at the Saipan airport arrested a 25-year-old Korean man who allegedly was carrying four pounds of the drug called ‘ice." It has a street value estimated at $1.2 million.

Gim Mahn Soo flew from South Korea to the Philippines to Guam to Saipan, leading authorities to believe he is part of a drug ring originating in the Philippines.

This was the biggest drug bust in the Marianas in two years.

The suspect is being held on $25,000 bail.
