ALOFI, Niue (June 27 - Radio Australia)---A bankruptcy claim before the New Zealand High Court may bring an abrupt end to Niue Premier Sani Lakatani's political career.

Niue's Electoral Act bars officers of the Crown from continuing to hold office after being declared bankrupt.

Managing Director, Steve Ware of Redwoods Export New Zealand Ltd., says after two-and-a-half-years of broken promises court action is his only remaining option.

We are proceeding to bankrupt him under New Zealand law, and then what we will have to do is lodge documentation in Niue Island for the bankruptcy in Niue Island. Now that's...Its a pretty serious situation as far as we're concerned. We don't want to do this. All we want is to be paid the funds… the amount of money that we're owed.
