APIA, Samoa (July 7, 2000 - Samoa Observer/PINA Nius Online)---Health Minister Misa Telefoni hosted a meeting to launch a Health Insurance plan for Samoa. The plan was developed by Aon Risk Services and has been specifically designed for Samoa.

Private Practitioners' Association President Dr. Lance Eves said the organization has yet to meet to consider the plan in detail.

"However, I fully support the scheme and suggest that it will greatly aid the medical health services and those seeking medical assistance in Samoa. It is a step in the right direction," he said.

Aon Risk Services is part of Aon Corporation, the world's second largest insurance broker. It has annual revenues of US$ 7.1 billion (T$22 billion) and 43,000 staff in 120 countries around the world. Aon's head office is in Chicago and the Corporation is listed on the New York and London stock exchanges.

The Aon Regional Office is based in Fiji, with branch offices in Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands and a representative, Pacifica Brokers Ltd, in Samoa.

The company also has health insurance businesses in Tonga, Tahiti, Nauru, Truk and American Samoa. This has given them a good understanding of the health insurance needs of South Pacific nations.

The need for health insurance in Samoa has been recognized for some time now.
