NEWS RELEASE July 20, 2000

Congressman Robert A. Underwood proudly announces that his nominees to the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis and the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs have been accepted for the Class of 2004.

Kenneth Roy Cruz reported to the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, earlier this month and was sworn in for the 2000-2001 school year.

He graduated with honors from Father Duenas Memorial High School last month.

Kenny is the son of Roy and Shawm Cruz of Agana Heights.

He plans to study medicine and become a medical doctor. He also hopes to serve on board a nuclear submarine and someday retrace the route of the ill-fated Titanic.

Jomia Therese Quan, who graduated from the Academy of Our Lady of Guam last month, is now at the Air Force Academy, getting ready to start the 2000-2001 school year.

Jomia is the daughter of Anthony F. and Flora Baza Quan of Sinajana.

Jomia wants to follow in the footsteps of her father, a 28-year veteran of the Army and Army Reserves, and brother, who is currently a senior at West Point.

Her ambition is to study architecture and believes that of all the armed services, the Air Force offers the best opportunities for women in this career field.
