ALOFI, Niue (July 27, 2000 - Niue Economic Review)--- A U.S.-backed medical school, Lord Liverpool University, has officially opened. It is housed in the former Niue Hotel.

Dean Randy Beck said the university started as a dream six years ago and now has medical students enrolled from around the world.

Beck also announced that the school already is adding new courses - in science, the arts and information technology.

Dr. Harry Nemaia serves as the university’s chancellor.

Premier Sani Lakatani said an advisory council has been established to provide local input into the university's development.
