PINA PRESIDENT PARKINSON REELECTED WORLD PRESS FREEDOM COMMITTEE DIRECTOR

SUVA, Fiji Islands (August 21, 2000 - PINA Nius Online)---Pacific Islands News Association president William Parkinson has been reelected a director of one of the world's two leading media freedom organizations.

Mr. Parkinson was reelected by members of the Washington, D.C.-based World Press Freedom Committee.

The World Press Freedom Committee has 44 journalistic organizations on six continents as affiliates and is dedicated to:

Its assistance for PINA members has included continuing support on freedom issues, training, support for the PINA Secretariat, and legal assistance for PINA members under threat.

PINA is also represented on the governing council of IFEX, a global network of media freedom and freedom of expression networks which runs the international media freedom alert service.

PINA administrator and PINA Pacific Freedom of Information Network coordinator Nina Ratulele is a member of the IFEX council and is its immediate past chairperson.
