KIRIBATI EARNS MORE THAN US$ 400,000 FROM SALE OF PASSPORTS

TARAWA, Kiribati (September 7, 2000 – Radio Australia)---The Kiribati government has earned more than US$ 400,000 from the sale of passports to foreign investors since June last year.

A foreign ministry spokesperson said 30 new green-colored passports were sold to businessmen from Asia.

Radio Kiribati reports each new passport costs at least US$ 15,000.

More foreign investors are expected to purchase the passports in the coming weeks.
