FIJI-BASED PRIEST BECOMES PAPUA NEW GUINEA BISHOP

PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (November 16, 2000 - The National/PINA Nius Online)---The Roman Catholic Church has announced the appointment of Reverend John Ribat as one of two new bishops in Papua New Guinea.

Father Ribat, 43, until now was the Director of Novices at the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart in Suva, Fiji.

Fr. Ribat, born in Rakival, on the island of Watom, in East New Britain province, made his first vows at Vunapau on February 2, 1979. He was ordained a priest in the cathedral at Rabaul on December 1, 1985.
