YAREN, Nauru (November 29, 2000 – Radio Australia)---Nauru’s Director of Sports, Paul Coffa, has resigned from the position.

After six years on the job, Mr. Coffa will take up the role of Executive Director of the 2001 World Weightlifting Championships to be hosted by Nauru next October.

Citing a massive workload, Mr. Coffa says overseeing the championships, which involves the construction of a new sports complex and athletes’ village, will leave him with little time:

"I just don’t have simply the time to dedicate it to other areas.

"The world championship is far too big; its immense... the numbers of countries participating is immense. It’s about 100 countries and 1,000 competitors and officials plus VIPs.

"Also, the championships will be webcast live and this will be the first world event of any sports to be webcast live in nine different languages."
