PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (December 4, 2000 - The Independent/PINA Nius Online)---After almost 10 months in dry dock, the Bougainville provincial government’s flagship, MV Sankamap, is due to return to Bougainville from the Cairns dockyard in Australia soon.

Concerns from Bougainville have been mounting over the prolonged stay overseas of the only vessel that services the entire province, including the small outer atoll islands of Carterets, Nissan, Fead, Mortlock and Tasman.

Delays within the Bougainville administration, the Office of Bougainville Affairs and the Sankamap Management Unit in funding the repair work supposedly contributed to the prolonged stay.

AusAID came to the rescue.
