HONIARA, Solomon Islands (December 5, 2000 - Radio Australia’s Pacific Beat)---The government is taking steps to ban the importation and use of toy guns as part of its move to demilitarize the country under the Townsville Peace Agreement.

The ban was prompted by several recent robberies of individuals and businesses by criminals using toy pistols.

Police and National Securities Minister William Home said the bill bans the possession, manufacturing and importation of imitation firearms.
