SUVA, Fiji Islands (December 24, 2000 – People’s Coalition Government)---The Acting President of Fiji, Ratu Josefa Iloilo, has asked Christians to follow the commandments of Lord Jesus.

In his Christmas message to the nation, Ratu Josefa stated:

"Our country descended into darkness this year. There was evil at work in the land and it caused great suffering. It still lurks in the shadow…"

Ratu Josefa also stated: "My friends, my brothers and sisters of Fiji, can we not love one another? Can we not find it within ourselves to do unto others, as we would have them do unto us? We all have neighbors. Why should we not love them? That is what Jesus yearns for us to do."

Ratu Josefa’s message comes in the wake of increasing dissatisfaction of the people of Fiji with the interim regime and its policies of racial segregation and discrimination.
