PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (December 21, 2000 - NAU FM/PINA Nius Online)---The Tourism Promotion Authority has recorded a decrease in the number of visitors to the country compared to last year’s figures, revealing that a total of 44, 210 visitors entered the country this year compared to last year’s 53, 146.

The decrease at the beginning of the year was due to the Y2K problem, while toward the middle, the drop was the result of the Solomon Islands and Fiji crises, it said.

A slightly downward tourism trend has been experienced since 1998.
