SUVA, Fiji Islands (December 29, 2000 - The Fiji Times/PINA Nius Online)---Fiji's gross tourism earnings for the third quarter of this year dropped by F$ 108.8 million (US$ 50,037,120) compared with the same period last year.

The Fiji Bureau of Statistics attributed the decrease to a decline in the number of visitor days due the political instability following the May 19 coup.

Total visitor arrivals for 2000 are estimated at 282,700, down 31 percent from the 1999 figure.

South Korea was the only country to record an increase in estimated visitor earnings during the third quarter.
