YARE, Nauru (January 2, 2000 – Radio Australia)---Taiwan will provide AUS$ 4 million (approximately US$ 2.24 million) during 2001 to help develop the island republic's private sector, President Bernard Dowiyogo announced during the opening of the country’s new Business Advisory Center.

The center has been established to help direct Nauru's economy away from reliance on the island's once lucrative, but declining phosphate deposits.
