PORT VILA, Vanuatu (January 3, 2000 – Radio Australia)---Vanuatu Prime Minister Barak Sope has called for more initiatives from the private sector to boost economic growth.

Mr. Sope commented on the matter while launching the new vessel, Dihn 1, owned by Port Vila businessman, Dihn Van Than.

The vessel, bought from Vietnam at a cost of about one million dollars, will service the outer islands.

Mr. Sope said the arrival of the vessel reflects the continuing cooperation between local business people and the government.

He said his government will continue to reform the civil service to make it more accountable and to provide more efficient services.
