HONIARA, Solomon Islands (January 3, 2001 - Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation/PINA Nius Online)---The Solomon Islands is missing out on previously authorized assistance from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, FAO.

The Minister for Agriculture and Primary Industries and Member of Parliament for Central Honiara, Moon Pin Kwan, made the announcement during a recent session of Parliament.

While answering questions, Mr. Kwan said FAO had suspended funding the Farming Systems Development Project, worth about one-and-half million dollars, due to the almost two years of ethnic unrest.

Although a peace agreement now is in effect between the militant Isatabu Freedom Movement and the Maliata Eagle Force, Mr. Kwan added that FAO will continue to suspend assistance until further notice.
