SUVA, Fiji Islands (January 4, 2001 - The Fiji Sun/PINA Nius Online)---Health services in Fiji are suffering as more doctors and nurses leave in the aftermath of last year's coup and associated turmoil.

Suva's Colonial War Memorial Hospital's medical superintendent, Dr. Salimoni Tuqa, confirmed the problem. "Yes, there's shortage. About 23 doctors, 45 nurses at the CWM," he said.

Dr. Tuqa said the Ministry of Health had indicated that Filipino doctors would be arriving soon to help ease the shortage.
