He's John Vulupindi, who was Secretary for Finance in the 1980s.

The Prime Minister, Sir Mekere Marouta, said Mr. Vulupindi will oversee wide-ranging reforms in the department and in the defense forces.

A special government committee recommended the reforms recently after a review.

Sir Mekere says Mr. Vulupindi will also implement recommendations that are due soon from the Commonwealth Imminent Persons' group study into defense force institutions.
