AMERICANS VISIT SOLOMONS TO OFFER AID

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (January 24, 2001 - Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation/PINA Nius Online)---A high-level United States delegation, including Ambassador Susan Jacobs, arrives today for a week-long visit.

The United States Consular Agent to the Solomon Islands, Keithie Saunders, said the delegation will be in the country to consider where assistance can best be provided to strengthen the peace process, following the Townsville Peace Agreement, as well as to meet community needs.

Members will hold talks with government officials in Honiara before traveling to Gizo in Western province and Auki on Malaita.

Ambassador Jacobs will be accompanied by Deputy Director of the Bureau of South East Asia and Pacific Islands at the State Department, Melville Ang, and Melanesian Desk Officer Ted Pierce.
