PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (February 19, 2001 PIDP/CPIS)---Governor Tauese Sunia departs this Thursday to attend the National Governor’s Association (NGA) meeting in Washington, D.C. where he and other territorial governors will have the opportunity to meet with newly appointed Secretary of Interior Gail Norton.

Tauese said the NGA meeting also would give state and territorial governors a chance to meet the new president, George W. Bush, and hear about his agenda.

Tauese and governors from other territories are also expected to attend the U.S. Coral Reef Task Force meeting and to visit the new leaders of the Bush administration, especially those with responsibilities for activities concerning American Samoa and other U.S. territories.

"Gail Norton, the new Secretary of Interior is willing to sit down and meet with me and other territorial governors," said Tauese.

Besides meeting with Secretary Norton, Tauese also plans to visit the Secretaries of the departments of Agriculture, Commerce and Transportation.

"We have some very specific views and proposals to present to these departments," he added.
