HONIARA, Solomon Islands (February 21, 2001 - Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation/PINA Nius Online)---The Western Provincial Government has moved to speed up the process of re-opening the Noro fishing operation on New Georgia Island.

Premier Ruben Lilo told Radio Happy Lagoon in Gizo he has taken the initiative to mediate between the central government, resource owners and Solomon Taiyo management to re-start fishing.

The Western provincial government held a series of meetings last week in Noro and Munda to discuss options.

The fishing operation closed as a result of problems during the Guadalcanal-Malaita ethnic conflict.

Meanwhile, Premier Lilo said the provincial government has agreed in principle to accept the 49 percent shares offered by the government in the new company taking over the Solomon Taiyo operations.
