MAJURO, Marshall Islands (Feb. 16, 2001 – Marshall Islands Journal)---A $9 million Asian Development Bank loan project for vocational education official went into effect on January 29, according to the Ministry of Education, which is supervising the loan.

The aim of the project is to strengthen the quality of the career awareness program to provide guidance to high school students in career and skills training options, improve relevance and quality of skills training, and increase skills training oriented to short-term employment and self-employment.

The latter training goal is focused on unemployed or "underemployed" people in the outer islands, with a special emphasis on women and youth.

Details of the loan plans and disbursement of money were discussed with Education Minister Wilfred Kendall, Finance Minister Mike Konclios and Minister in Assistance Gerald Zackios during a visit that concluded last Friday by ADB senior project specialist Tilak Sen.
