New Minister of Tourism appointed

The Hon. Hans Joachim Keil has been appointed Samoa’s new Minister of Tourism following the country’s general elections earlier this month. The Minister also holds the portfolio of Trade, Commerce and Industry, and his appointment marks his second term as a Cabinet Minister, in a career that spans four consecutive terms as an MP. He replaces Hon. Tuala Sale Tagaloa who was appointed Minister of Lands & Environment.

New Samoa Visitors Bureau Website

Well if you haven’t already discovered it, the Samoa Visitors Bureau has a new website, hosted from back home in Apia. The address is: www.visitsamoa.ws It’s been fully updated and includes events for the year, updated contacts, links to hotel and tour operators sites and much more.

New SVB Fact Sheet Brochure

Hey folks, we have just printed an updated "Fact Sheet" brochure listing all the members of Samoa’s travel and tourism industry with all their contacts (phone, fax, email addresses). So if you’d like one for your office, simply contact your nearest office of the Samoa Visitors Bureau for a copy. It’s free!

New GM for Sinalei Reef Resort

Sinalei Reef Resort has appointed Tanya Southgate as the resort’s new general manager. Tanya takes over from Sose Annandale who after much deliberating has decided to take up semi retirement to dabble in other things. Also take a look at their new website: www.sinalei.com 

Polynesian Airlines has a new Website

Samoa’s national carrier, Polynesian Airlines (PH) have launched a new website. The address is www.polynesianairlines.com The airline has also revamped their inflight magazine, full of interesting editorial on some of the destinations it flies too. For a copy simply contact your nearest office of Polynesian Airlines.

New "Beach Fale" establishment open and online

A new beach fale operator has opened for business in the village of Saanapu, on the south coast of the main island of Upolu. Called "Samoa Virgin Cove Retreat" it offers Samoan fale accommodation complete with Samoa hospitality. Rates start from ST$50 per person per day which includes meals. To view their website simply log onto: www.virgin.cove.ws If you want to book directly you can also do so via the website address.

Benny Hinn Crusade coming to towm

World renowned American TV evangelist, Benny Hinn, will hold a crusade in Samoa from 3rd to 4th May, 2001, as part of his worldwide tour. Thousands of followers from around the Pacific Rim and throughout the region are expected to converge on Apia for the two day crusade. The dates coincide with the end of National Youth Week in Samoa and the Pacific National Prayer Day (4th May). Benny visited Samoa last month to talk to Government officials and church leaders. Details of his visit have yet to be finalised, SO WATCH THIS SPACE!

Faleolo International Airport works completed

Extension work on Faleolo International Airport’s runway have now been completed. The runway was extended by a further 300 meters, enabling Boeing 767’s and 747’s with full payloads to land and take off. Meanwhile, the Airport terminal now also features a "Polynesian" Business Class Lounge for passengers, operated by Polynesian Airlines. The Lounge seats up to 30 passengers and offers a full range of services – complimentary refreshments, showers facility, separate toilets, workstations, internet and email access, magazines and newspapers and airline reservations system for onward travel confirmation.

What’s on in Samoa during April, 2001

National Youth Week, 30th April to 4th May, 2001. A week dedicated to the youth of today and their continuing endeavour for the betterment of tomorrow. Various activities are planned throughout Samoa all week for the entertainment of all.

New Hotel opens in Apia

Samoa’s first new hotel of the millennium, the "Samoa Holiday Hotel" has opened for business. Located at Alamagoto, on the western side of Mt Vaea, about two minutes from downtown Apia, the Hotel offers 12 self contained units. All units feature small kitchenette, separate bathrooms, air-conditioning, televisions and double beds. There’s even a small shop located on the premises.

Stage One of construction is now complete, with a further 28 units, swimming pool and restaurant to be added. Rates start from US$75 single or US$85 double per night.
