AMERICAN SAMOA GOVERNOR TAUESE SUNIA RESTING IN HOSPITAL

PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (March. 27, 2001 - PIDP/CPIS)---Governor Tauese Sunia is resting comfortably and recuperating at the LBJ Tropical Medical Center after being admitted to the Intensive Care Unit late Friday afternoon from gout complications.

The Governor's press officer, Birdsall Alailima, said the governor is not in any critical condition.

"Basically he is resting and recuperating," said Alailima. "He is expected back to the office soon."

The governor remains at ICU, according to the hospital, where he is doing fine, but "needs a lot of rest."

However, the governor is still working from his bedside on urgent matters.

Governor Tauese met with media representatives Friday morning at a televised press conference, but he developed a fever later in the day. He has been troubled lately with recurrence of gout.
