FSM ELECTION 2001 RE-SEATS CONGRESS, USHERS IN NEW CONCON GROUP

PALIKIR, Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia (March 26, 2001 – FSM Information Service)---Election 2001 has re-seated all the two-year incumbents and one new -- yet familiar -- face to Congress, and also provided for the participants in the Third Constitutional Convention (ConCon) of the Federated States of Micronesia.

On March 14, 2001, Max Mallarme, the Director of the National Election Commission, officially submitted to President Leo A. Falcam, the certified results of the March 6 general election.

General results showed that all two-year term Congress members were re-elected, with the exception of the late Senator Nishima Yleizah (whose seat will be occupied by a former employee of the Legislative Branch, Henry Asugar).

The 3rd Constitutional Convention (ConCon) brought back some seasoned veterans and introduced a couple of fresh faces, the 26-year old Esmond Moses from Pohnpei’s District 3, and the first female delegate representing the at-large ConCon in Pohnpei, Mrs. Beauleen Carl Worswick.

The state results are as follows:

CHUUK State: ConCon at-large – Wesley Simina District 1: Congress – Henry Asugar; ConCon – Lorin Robert District 2: Congress – Roosevelt Kansou; ConCon – Camillo Noket District 3: Congress – Jack Fritz; ConCon – Sanphy William District 4: Congress – John Petewon; ConCon – Kasio E. Mida District 5: Congress – Simeon R. Innocenti; James A. Naich

KOSRAE State: Congress – Claude H. Phillip ConCon (2) - Aren B. Palik and Harry A. Seymour

POHNPEI State: ConCon at-large – Beauleen C. Worswick District 1: Congress – Dohsis Halbert; ConCon - Casiano Shoniber District 2: Congress – Wagner M. Lawrence; ConCon – Naiten O. Phillip District 3: Congress – Peter M. Christian; ConCon – Esmond Moses

YAP State: Congress – Isaac Figir ConCon (2) - James L. Lukan and John R. Haglelgam
