BRITAIN APPOINTS SCARBOROUGH TO REOPENED KIRIBATI HIGH COMMISSION POST

SUVA, Fiji Islands (April 3, 2001 - PINA Nius Online)---The British government is reestablishing a High Commission office in Kiribati, a statement issued by the British High Commission in Suva said today.

Former Deputy High Commissioner Vernon Scarborough has been appointed Resident British Deputy High Commissioner, reporting to High Commissioner Michael Price in Suva.

He will take up his position next week.

Mr. Scarborough was based in Suva from 1995 to 2000 as Deputy High Commissioner to Fiji, Kiribati, Tuvalu, and Nauru, and Ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands and Palau.

He earlier spent four years as Trade Commissioner in the British Consulate General in Auckland.
