FORMER FRENCH PRIME MINISTER ROCARD IN THE PACIFIC LATER THIS MONTH

PAPE‘ETE, French Polynesia (April 10, 2000 - Oceania Flash/SPC)---Former French Prime Minister Michel Rocard is scheduled to make a tour of the French Pacific territories later this month as part of preparation for the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC)'s summit later in April in Kyoto (Japan), the daily newspaper la Dépêche de Tahiti reports.

Rocard, who as a prime minister was instrumental in the signing of the first Matignon Accords (in 1988) in then troubled New Caledonia, will be in French Polynesia April 19- 20.

He will meet the French territory's top officials, including President Gaston Flosse

PECC includes Pacific cooperation partners and every metropolitan power that has a direct relation to the world's largest ocean.
