SAIPAN, Northern Mariana Islands (April 25, 2001 – Radio Australia)---Falun Gong practitioners on Saipan -- mainly expatriate garment workers -- are seeking the support of the United Nations and human rights groups to stop the Chinese government from persecuting its members.

The Saipan Falun Gong group is circulating a petition denouncing the persecution of its members in China, where the group is banned.

Founder of Falun Gong on Saipan, Bill Xie, says Saipan's Falun Gong group used to have a membership of over 100 but due to persecution, the figure has declined to 30.

He claims Falun Gong members on Saipan who have returned to China have been persecuted.

Falun Gong practices an ancient form of refining the body and mind through special exercises and meditation.
