PACIFIC EDUCATORS MEET IN SAIPAN

SAIPAN, Northern Mariana Islands (April 26, 2001 - Marianas Variety/PINA Nius Online)---More than 100 educators from various island nations in the Western Pacific region are gathering on Saipan to attend a professional development seminar of the Western Association of Education Opportunity Personnel.

The Northern Marianas, Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Palau, Hawai‘i, American Samoa and Guam are expected to send representatives.

The Northern Marianas College is facilitating the Westop-Pacific Islands Chapter workshop, said Lorraine Sonoda of the Northern Marianas College.

Sonoda said 10 presenters from Western Kentucky University and representatives from the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Federal TRIO Programs, the Counsel of Opportunity in Education and the Pacific Islands Chapter will conduct the training and workshops.

The topics to be covered include grant writing, objective writing, performance report preparation, hiring and motivating staff, team building, counseling assessment, tracking students using the Internet and administrative assistants training.
