PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (May 2, 2001 - Samoa News/PINA Nius Online)---Hawaiian Airlines has shifted its Pago Pago flights to daytime arrivals due to the partial shutdown of the instrumental landing system (ILS) at Pago Pago International Airport.

Runway extension construction work now under way has caused the problem.

Navigational equipment that will temporarily assist with landings at night is expected to be in place by May 14th.

Freight carrier Evergreen International already has suspended its Sunday flight to American Samoa, which arrived at 1:45 a.m.

Spokespersons for both Hawaiian and Evergreen said that they need the full system operational during night flights, especially if there is poor visibility due to bad weather.
