MAJURO, Marshall Islands (May 3, 2001 – Marshall Islands Journal)---Bechtel National, Inc. and Lockheed Martin, two giants in the construction/engineering and aerospace industries, respectively, have teamed up to bid for the logistics and range contracts at the U.S. Army Kwajalein Missile Range.

Bechtel officials were in both Majuro and Kwajalein last month meeting various government, business and other officials in preparation for preparing a bid on the major defense contract. Bids are expected to be filed later this year and a decision on a new contractor reached by mid-2002, with the new contract period starting in early 2003.

Bechtel and Lockheed have established a joint venture company called Kwajalein Range Services for bidding on the "integrated range engineering and logistics support services" contract at Kwajalein.

Raytheon currently runs both logistics and range engineering for the Kwajalein missile range.
