SUVA, Fiji Islands (May 8, 2001 – FijiLive)---Caretaker Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase launches his new party Wednesday, with at least 14 members of his Cabinet expected to join him.

But the move has been criticized by Vanua Tako Lavo Party President Lasarusa Sovea.

Sovea said Qarase has been calling for unity all the time while silently plotting his own party.

He said Qarase still should consider the Fiji Political Parties Forum, otherwise disunity will again see Fijian parties sitting in the opposition.

Deposed Deputy Prime Minister Adi Kuini Speed also criticized the move, saying she was not joining the party despite being asked. Instead she invited Qarase to join her Fijian Association Party.
