PAPUA NEW GUINEA AND CHINA TO SIGN COOPERATION DEAL

PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (May 29, 2001 – Radio Australia)---Prime Minister Sir Mekere Morauta is expected to sign a development cooperation treaty in Beijing today cementing bilateral relations and reaffirming PNG's one China policy.

The 24-member delegation flew to Hong Kong via Australia on Saturday, and then onto Beijing for a meeting with President Jiang Zemin.

Sir Mekere is expected to address a China Council for the Promotion of International Trade luncheon followed by bilateral talks with Premier Zhu Rongji at the Great Hall of the People.

Wednesday's program includes a visit to the Great Wall of China, climaxing with Sir Mekere meeting with Chairman Li Peng.

After a visit to Shanghai, the delegation will fly back to Hong Kong on Sunday and spend three days there before returning to Papua New Guinea.
