PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (June 15, 2001 - Post-Courier/PINA Nius Online)---University of Papua New Guinea Vice Chancellor Professor Les Eastcott has urged students to take alcohol in moderation or stay away from the Waigani campus if they are intoxicated.

Professor Eastcott made the comments after being advised of a spate of disorderly acts by students who get drunk outside and then come to campus.

The Vice Chancellor said students who get drunk, assault and vandalize university property and intrude on the rights of other students and staff would be dealt with "fairly, but also strictly."

Professor Eastcott also apologized to the majority of the students who were genuine and serious in their studies. He said it was sad that many of the good students’ well being were constantly spoiled by a few disorderly people.
