ISLANDS FORUM SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME

Citizens of Forum island countries who intend to commence under-graduate and post-graduate studies are invited to apply for scholarships under the Taiwan/ROC-Pacific Islands Forum Scholarship Scheme. Scholarships are awarded for studies in courses at institutions in Forum island countries[1]. The Scheme especially welcomes women applicants with limited means to obtain university education. 

THE SCHOLARSHIPS

Level of education: Certificate, Diploma, Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate degrees

Duration: From one to three years

Coverage: Tuition fees, text books, living allowance, medical and travel insurance, return economy airfares (Note: dependants will not be covered under the scheme)

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Prospective applicants must:

be a citizen of a Forum island country (FICs), and resident of that FIC for five years prior to application;

have gained admission to an approved course in a tertiary training or educational institution in Forum Island Countries (see attached list);

must not hold or have held another scholarship at tertiary level, in the preceding 24 months;

must be applying to commence a new course of study and not be seeking support for study already commenced;

be in good health;

not have a criminal record;

continuation of an award is dependant on satisfactory performance.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should:

obtain application forms from the institutions of their choice, or from the Forum Secretariat;

submit the completed application form and required documentation to the institution, with a copy of their application to the Forum Secretariat - this copy should be endorsed by the Forum Secretariat’s official contacts which in most cases are the Ministries of Foreign or External Affairs, and in some the Prime Minister’s Office.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Awards will be granted on the basis of:

the nominated field of study being one of the priority areas of study as set out in the attached list;

the HRD needs and capacity constraints of the applicants’ home country.

Applications close on 7 July 2001 for courses starting in 2001 and 31 January 2002 for courses starting in 2002
