PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (June 25, 2001 - Samoa Observer/PINA Nius Online)---More than 25 overstayers have been caught in a police raid of four nightclubs in the Pago Pago Bay area of Tutuila, American Samoa.

Called "Operation Sweep," the raid was a joint effort of the Department of Public Safety, the Attorney General’s Office, the Immigration Office and the Alcohol Beverage Control Board, acting Commissioner of Public Safety Mike Fuiava said.

The sweep found more than 25 persons either without immigration papers or expired papers, some dating back to 1998.

Some of the individuals had run away from their sponsors and did not renewed their sponsorships.

All those caught were taken to the Territorial Correctional Facility and incarcerated.

Most of those without immigration papers or with expired immigration clearance forms are from neighboring Samoa.
