DIRECTOR OF FIJI RED CROSS SCOTT MURDERED IN SUVA

SUVA, Fiji Islands (July 2, 2001 – Radio Australia)---The director of the Red Cross in Fiji, John Scott, has been murdered at his home in Suva.

As Radio Australia correspondent Ofa Kaukimoce reports from Suva, police have confirmed that the body of John Scott was one of two bodies found.

"Police Commissioner Isikia Savua, in addressing a media conference this afternoon, confirmed that the bodies were of John Scott and his friend Greg Shivana.

"They were reportedly hacked to death in their house.

"Commissioner Savua confirmed that their bodies had received multiple and severe head injuries.

"He says the incident took place early this morning.

"Police believe another person or persons were involved as the murder weapon was found outside their home.

"Mr. Scott was in the limelight during the coup last year as he was the contact person between families and members of the deposed government while they were held hostage in Parliament.

"A number of people have been questioned over the incident.

"Ofa Kaukimoce, Radio Australia, Suva."
