MAJURO, Marshall Islands (June 22, 2001 – Marshall Islands Journal)---Majuro Atoll Local Government is reactivating its policy against repeat criminals who are not from Majuro.

Mayor Mudge Samuel informed the Journal this week that any "non-Ri-Majuro" juveniles or adults, males or females, repeatedly found guilty of malicious mischief will be sent back to their home islands, and will be banned from Majuro for no less than five years.

To show that the local government means business, Samuel informed the Journal that it has taken action against two individuals already. Jaime Joe, a 17-year-old girl from Ailuk, and Jima Erakrik, a 24-year-old man from Namdrik, were recently deported culprits, according to the Mayor.

Samuel sent letters to both Ailuk Mayor Hackney Takju and Namdrik Mayor Walser Clement informing them of the action.

"MALGov regrets having to do this." Samuel said. "But the few individuals who repeatedly cause mischief do not fear our court system versus the life on an island with no alcohol."

The Marshall Islands Journal, Box 14, Majuro, Marshall Islands 96960 E-mail:  Subscriptions (weekly): 1 year US $87.00; international $213.00 (air mail).
