HELP ON WAY FOR SOLOMONS STUDENTS, SAYS MINISTER MAINA

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (July 30, 2001 - Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation/PINA Nius Online)---The government has assured Solomon Islands students studying overseas that it will soon settle their fees and allowances.

National Planning and Human Resources Development Minister Michael Maina told SIBC News that he was on his way to hold a meeting with students at the University of Papua New Guinea in Port Moresby.

Mr. Maina said sponsored students’ fees and allowances will be met by money obtained under a more than Sol$ 100 million (US$ 19,360,000) post-conflict rehabilitation aid package from the European Union.

Mr. Maina said that education programs will be enhanced through the European aid package, including Solomon Islands College of Higher Education, secondary and primary schools, vocational training centers, school broadcast programs and other entities involved in education.
