HONIARA, Solomon Islands (July 31, 2001 - Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation/PINA Nius Online)---Solomon Telekom Limited is waiting for a formal license from the government before beginning the relay of a permanent television service to Honiara residents.

General Manager Martin Robinson confirmed that the British government has offered Telekom the rights to relay the BBC World Service free of charge.

He said Telekom does not have any plans to provide local television services because although it has the technical expertise, it lacks programming expertise.

Mr. Robinson added that according to a survey conducted six years ago, the fiscal viability of a local television station is marginal.
