YAREN, Nauru (August 5, 2001 – Radio Australia)---Commonwealth Secretary General Don McKinnon will attend the 32nd Pacific Islands Forum summit in Nauru, August 16-18.

It will be the first time a Commonwealth secretary general has been present at the annual gathering of Pacific presidents and prime ministers.

While in Nauru, he will meet with Commonwealth Pacific leaders and other Forum heads of government to discuss preparations for October's Commonwealth heads of government meeting in Brisbane, Australia.

Mr. McKinnon says he also hopes to discuss with Forum Secretary General Noel Levi matters of mutual concern between the two organizations.

As part of his preparation for the Forum summit, Mr. McKinnon hosted a lunch for Pacific ambassadors and high commissioners in London last week.
