BUILD EXISTING TRAINING ORGANIZATIONS, DON'T CREATE NEW ONES, SAY PACIFIC TV

SUVA, Fiji Islands (October 6, 2001 - PINA Nius Online)---The training work of existing Pacific Islands organizations should be strengthened rather than new ones created, a Pacific Islands TV meeting at Nadi has recommended.

The meeting, organized by UNESCO and the intergovernmental Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), also said training within the region should be given priority.

It came as the four-day meeting culminated with a discussion on "Does the Pacific Need a TV School?"

Participants decided against this, urging instead concentration on strengthening the work of:

The busy four-day program included sessions on: Exchange of Programs and Co-production; Selling and Buying Programs; Pubic Service and Local Production; Local Production - Funding; Local Programming – New Partnerships; New Technologies and Pacific TV; New Technologies and Global Developments; New Technologies in TV Transmission; Digital Archives and Pacific Audiovisual Heritage; and Training.
