HONIARA, Solomon Islands (October 25, 2001 - Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation/PINA Nius Online)---Lack of money has forced the closure of Solomon Islands College of Higher Education until next year.

Director Gabriel Taloikwai said the closure was due to the government's non-payment of a commitment of SI$ 2 million (US$ 365,000) to the college.

Education is among the areas hit hardest by the financial crisis following two years of Guadalcanal-Malaita ethnic conflict over jobs and land rights.

Taloikwai said the college does not have the money to keep open until the end of the academic year.
