NORFOLK ISLAND VOTES FOR DISSOLUTION OF LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY

KINGSTON, Norfolk Island (October 26, 2001 – Radio Australia)--- Voters have approved the dissolution of the Legislative Assembly because of a lack of confidence in is work.

A referendum found only 379 people were in favor of keeping the existing government, while 555 people thought there should be a general election to replace the legislature’s full membership.

Speaker David Buffet said current members of the assembly will meet shortly to examine the results and determine what action to take.

Norfolk Island is an Australian territory in the Pacific Ocean, about a thousand miles northeast of Sydney.
