PACIFIC ISLANDS CENTER IN JAPAN

A new Director has been appointed for the Pacific Islands Centre in Tokyo, Japan, which operates as a Trade Office for the Suva-based Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat.

Mr. Akira Ouchi replaces Mr. Hideo Fujita who has been transferred to the Japanese Embassy in Dhaka.

"Mr Ouchi brings with him a wealth of experience, having developed an extensive career in economic cooperation both in the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Japan as well as in overseas missions," said the Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, Mr. Noel Levi, CBE.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Ouchi was the Assistant Director, Technical Cooperation Division, Economic Cooperation Bureau with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA).

As Director of the Pacific Islands Center, Mr. Ouchi will be responsible for the Center’s overall operation of the trade and investment promotion programs between Forum Island Countries and Japan.

The Forum Secretariat also operates trade offices in Sydney, Australia and Auckland, New Zealand, while a fourth trade office was recently established in Beijing, People’s Republic of China.
