SUVA, Fiji Islands (December 10, 2001 - PINA Nius Online)---Two of Fiji's three daily newspapers, the Daily Post and the Sun, are to merge, according to a Radio Fiji report quoting government sources.

The government is the biggest shareholder in the Post, while the Sun is controlled by local business interests.

Fiji's main daily newspaper, the 132-year-old Fiji Times, is part of the News Limited group headed by international publisher and media operator Rupert Murdoch.

Fiji has a highly competitive news media scene. As well as the daily newspapers there are two major radio networks operating eight stations between them, community and religious radio stations, national free-to-air, pay and community TV, Fijian and Hindi weekly newspapers, regional and local news magazines and news websites.
