PAPE‘ETE, Tahiti, French Polynesia (December 20, 2001 – Tahitipresse)---The November visitor statistics at Tahiti-Faa'a International Airport are not good at all.

The number of passengers on international flights was down 21.4% compared to November 2000.

This is the consequence of the September 11th terrorist attacks on the United States.

For the January - November 2001 period, there is a significant 9% drop in international flight passengers, to and from Tahiti.

Hawaiian Airlines has been particularly hardly hit by the crisis. Figures for Hawaiian Airlines are down by 58.3% from November 2000 to November 2001.

Hawaiian Airlines use to carry passengers from Los Angeles to Papeete to go aboard the R3 and R4 cruise ships for voyages from Tahiti. But Renaissance cruises ended following last September’s terrorist tragedies in New York and Washington.
