SUVA, Fiji Islands (December 29, 2001 – Fiji Sun)---Former Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is in a legal wrangle over claims by a woman journalist that he fathered her son.

So much so that the Suva Magistrate Court yesterday ordered Sitiveni Rabuka to undergo a DNA test with the journalist, Margaret Wise.

Ms. Wise is demanding maintenance from Mr. Rabuka on the claim that he fathered her 18-month-old son.

This is believed to be the second DNA test to be performed on the two, since Mr. Rabuka said he could not understand as a "layman" the results of the first one.

The Court wants the test to be completed by the end of next month.

The SUN believes Ms. Wise, currently Chief of Staff of The Fiji Times newspaper, wants the former coup leader to pay her F$ 350 (US$ 151) each month as maintenance.

Mr. Rabuka claims he can only afford F$ 40 (US$ 17.26) a week.

Ms. Wise has rejected this and wants the former leader to admit paternity before the question of monetary settlement is discussed.
